Yahoo! Submission - Registrant?

How important is the registrant for .co.uk domains?

Hi All,

We're going to sumbit the site to Yahoo! Business express for a new branded website in the UK. Problem, the registrant is the director's name and not the brand of the website. The brand contains the keywords of course!

Clearly, everything on the website, including the business is tailored for the new brand - but we're concerned that the registrant will cause a problem..

Put it this way - we can't "legally" change the registrant for the .co.uk record to match the brand; So, should we be concerned?

Has anyone had experience of this for .co.uk records in the UK? Our last resort will be to use a .com record instead...

i would NOT worry about it, as long as it is a genuine site with NO tricks or trademark issues.

A lot of the commercial sites which I have submitted were similar inscenario to yours.

Obviously being keen to keep in with SEO stuff we've branded it using keywords! What else!

But want reassurance about the risk before plumbing for the .co.uk address v's the .com address which has all the right trademark entries to get the correct listing..

Have you submitted UK sites via Yahoo.com or did you go through Yahoo in the UK?

If it is UK site, ALWAYS submit through Yahoo UK. It is a one off payment (for now) as opposed to a yearly fee and (if you are VAT registered) costs less than Yahoo.com. You still will appear on all english speaking Yahoos.

Bit of a no-brainer really.

You are worrying about nothing! So long as the website conforms to their guidelines you will have no problems.
My site, is xxx-keyword-keyword-xxx.co.uk, hosted in the US with a private registrant. It is also simply affiliate and was accepted no problem.
In actual fact, my site did not even conform with a major guideline and was still accepted!

Thanks for the comments! Cash is tight for this project so I'm anxious not to stuff it up the first time I try to get a site done properly using SEO techniques!

I'm feeling more confident now! :)

cheekymonkey - welcome to WebmasterWorld

Good advice from the other guys here.

The key's to Yahoo listing is your site:

Make sure your site is 100% good - no broken links, etc.
Choose your category with great care. The editors are always looking for something different to add to a particular category. Sometimes, if your site is very similar to a number of others in a category, look at an alternative category that is less well endowed with "competing" sites.
Read and review the sites in your chosen category - make sure your site and entry is different.
Write your entry with great care. No puff, just facts.

Follow their guidelines to the letter and apply the rules as if you were not emotionally attached to your site.

Unfortunately, it's still no guarantee as they say on their site.

Thanks for the sound advice! :) The site is now safely listed in Yahoo!... but something I hadn't realised they take into account, is the number of times your site is clicked on from their listings.

Which is clearly seen as all other New entries are at the bottom of their lists. I must say I read all the doco on Yahoo! and never knew this - Ok like I said, I'm learning all the time... :)

What options for improving this are there - clearly given the natural course of the site it will gradually move up the listings... Can anyone offer some insight into how click-throughs work on Yahoo? Specifically, things that might have been tried before to improve listings and should be avoided! :)
