Are you getting any free listings?
More importantly, are you getting any traffic from paid or free submissions?

No free listings for a while and paid are now a complete waste of time (and money) ever since the directory listings were removed from the top of the main SERPs. From getting significant traffic it has fallen to zero traffic from directory listings.

Exactly the same here as with makemetop. Though I have seen the directory show up in Google back links.

Likewise, its well down my list of 'how to spend a customers money'.

I suppose it might be worth it for the link, but only after all other avenues have been exhausted.

The PR isn't much to write home about.

Yep, nothing in for free for ages and hardly any traffic from the odd client that’s paid the fee.

Isn’t that a shame, that the only reason for paying the Lycos fee is to increase your link pop so google will rank you better, is this going to soon be the only reason for submitting to other SE/Directories so you boost a sites LP

I am having a nightmare with a banner ad i placed there.

Targeted keyword is currently £1.80 on ppc and would bring a wealth of new leads but a banner i have is bringing in one visitor a day for the same keyword.

Now i know banners in the main are worthless but the banner i designed was made to look exactly like a listing same colours, no graphics just text.

The sales dept at Lycos made me a very good offer to which at the time i felt i couldnt refuse. Well it has taught me two things:

1) Dont do Banners <blushing>which i already knew</blushing>

2) Dont give lycos another penny for a listing until they bring them directory results back to the top.

Hello anyone that knows me, I've been a long time lurker, see some familiar names in this thread already.

Lycos should consider doing a mix in their default results listings in the same way BTLooksmart peppers MSN.co.uk with its Bidright listings. That way everyone's happy.

GlynMusica, welcome to WebmasterWorld (out of lurking mode).

Good points and it's clear that the directory listings are as good as buried. I'd like to think that Lycos are reading this thread and take notice. ;)

As far as banners are concerned, nowadays I always recommend banners on the basis of brand building in the first instance and any clicks are a bonus.
