I've just been reading the posts regarding MSN UK and was interested to hear they may be shutting down.
I am completely confused as to where they are getting their results from these days, so maybe meltdown has begun already.
To explain, yesterday I checked rankings for a number of keywords and they were in the Top 10 or 20 - today they have disappeared completely! They were appearing via a submission to LookSmart UK. Some of the results for the keywords i entered are still relevant, but others just seem to be big advertisers (better not mention names but theyre in the travel industry and seem to be everywhere!). While the other relevant URL's in the SERP's are just the root domain, as you would expect from Web Directory results (i.e. results from LookSmart), the big advertisers have big long dynamic URL's.
Has it always been like this for MSN UK? One advertiser had 3 such URL's in the Top 15 and another had 4. That makes 7 out of 15 results paid for by big bucks. I know I paid as well so maybe i shouldn't complain just because I don't have as big a budget as these companies. However, I had keywords in title and description and my site was a lot more relevant than some of the bigger sites.
Whatever chance smaller companies had against the big guys seems to have been eliminated, at least for MSN and LOOksmart in the UK. Any thoughts?
