Excite UK is back

Excite UK [excite.co.uk] is back, using Fast DB and DMOZ.

Tiscali look like the owners as they have been buying up Excite elsewhere, althought there is no official announcement about the UK site at the moment.

I like the layout - the necessary adverts are 'ignorable' and the 'exlude words' option will be useful for newbies.

I get a blank page at the moment - but I do see it trying to load something through tiscali.fr.

It would be nice to see Excite UK return - but I fear it is a bit late! It will need some decent promotion to get back their users.

The adverts aren't intrusive, I quite like it :)

Although it is useless unless it produces traffic.

It will be interssting to see if it brings any traffic at all, also it seems like FAST is in the final round of implementing there websearch at the Infoseek pages (even though this seems to be owned by Tiscali which FAST also powers).

Can we realistically expect Excite to still be carrying any traffic? I know that they have a relatively strong name, but they have been 'away' for such a long time. Does the name count for anything?

What is their selling point for this? The SERPs don't look UK filtered to me, so what are they offering that AllTheWeb or Lycos isn't?

I wonder just how much they will be able to deliver. Anyway, good luck to them and let's hope they make a good go of it. :)

Not only Excite UK, but Excite through out Europe. Tiscali says:

Sorry, we can't tell you anything more about this, they said. There's news coming out in the next couple of weeks - you'll have to wait until then. It seems Tiscali doesn't want to say any more in case they spoil their pan-European launch.
