Yell.Con £70 for a co.uk domain

Does anyone pay yell.com for banners or links and if so, does it generate traffic. I have been reading through their site and found that they charge £70 for co.uk domains.
This alone is enough to make me wonder if they are just ripping everyone off.

Any Thoughts?

I have a smallish budget, but I do have click-thru listing on 2 services in my own area. It's £280 a year and does produce results.
£280 quids worth of results? We'll have to see, but Yell are becoming more well known and they are offered as the first choice for ask jeeves uk on some of my key-words.
Like all money thrown at advertising, who of your competitors are around is an important factor for consideration.

At that price it is competing with a Yahoo listing.

Now, if you already have:

Yahoo
Looksmart
The optimum number of paid pages in Inktomi/Lycos/AltaVista/Teoma
A well balanced BPC campaign on Overture and Espotting

Then it MIGHT be worth it, but I doubt it.

Most of our our customers would be better off with a few more Inktomi pages.

The few customers who paid for Yell (before we got to them:)) show very little traffic.

Has anyone else seen any significant results to justify the high fee?

I take your point about yahoo etc. I didn't know of espotting, checked their search and we are invisible on key words but show up on the odd link.
I see espotting is powered by inktomi where we show up well , apart from a bizarre description(thanks to £ook$mart). All very odd.
Espotting is new to me, what is their user base?
In our business people have traditionally reached for yellow pages hence the results with Yell.
I agree other sites would probably spend the money better elsewhere.

Espotting is a Bid-per-click engine targeting the UK (similar to Overture)

It feeds its BPC results to Yahoo UK amongst others.

I agree, some businesses will have a better chance with Yell than others depending on the customer base.

In case you didn't see it earlier, check out the espotting [webmasterworld.com] spotlight thread.
