Teoma results on Ask UK?

Direct Hit now in drop-down menu at bottom.

Following a recent upsurge in referrals from Ask UK for questions like 'how can i get my site to the top of search engines' and simple phrases like 'search engines' over the last 36 hours, I checked and saw my recently changed Teoma title and description in the Ask UK results (I'm in Teoma paid inclusion). Looks like the switch from Direct Hit has happened with some sort of UK filter in place.

Now to try and work out how it works :)

Strange - I am still seeing the 'direct hit' ref in the link.

A search that one of my customers 'rules' teoma on isn't reflected on ask.co.uk (yet - fingers crossed though).

Are your positions in line with Teoma or are they just taking the titles and descriptions at the moment?

Yes, the DirectHit thing put me off at first - but if you check on ask.com it also gives a DH string in the referral for Teoma listings. Ask have said that they intend to keep the DirectHit tracking so I assume this is a continuation of the US policy. My site is pretty invisible on DH anyway.

I can find a match on the results with Teoma for some direct queries but not on others. Certainly the results are completely different from DH if you look at the DH drop-down. How the UK filter works, or what triggers certain answers to be pulled from the DB are going to be the subject of some research.

I've just whacked a travel booking site into Teoma to see what happens in AJ. I'll keep you posted ;)

>look at the DH drop-down

If you click on the Direct HIt link they line up. Looks like straight DH UK to me, no Teoma.

Yes, things are obviously in a state of flux! I no longer appear for 'search engines' and it is back to DH listings. But it was as I said for a few hours earlier today.

Hello. I'm the Director of Content at Ask.co.uk and I thought I'd answer a few of the queries posted here with regards to Direct Hit (DH) and Teoma on the ask.co.uk domain. In the UK we currently use only DH as an index search (the ask.com site uses a Teoma feed). We have been evaluating a UK filter to the DH results but have decided to return to US results based on user interaction with the results over a two week trial period. Teoma is scheduled for release on the UK service this coming summer.

Hi CraigSmith welcome to wmw,

Thanks for the input, much appreciated.

>Teoma is scheduled for release on the UK service this coming summer.

Very nice, any chance they will be UK filtered results or at least an option?

We are evaluating a UK partition for Teoma results. Cheers

Thanks for the info, CraigSmith

We need a bit more competition in the SE world, the Ask/Teoma has a lot of potential - more strength to your arm.

Keep dropping in.
