For the key words I am researching (mobile phones) I see the following display in Yahoo UK
1 - Related Yahoo services
2 - Browse categories of web sites
Under this category the list is (on first page):
-----------------------------------------
Cellular
Cellular
Telephones
GSM Phones
Satellite Phones
-------------------------------------------
3 - Sponsored listings
4 - Web Site matches (finally!)
Under Web Site matches the categories with Mobile Phones in the title display as follows:
------------------------------------------
Directories
Telephones
Equipment
Accessories (and so on)
-------------------------------------------
My question is -- Can someone tell me where my site would end up (site name has mobile phones in title) if I submitted it to the Cellular category? Would the Cellular category results display above the Directory category results for this scenario?
I am not sure I fully understand your question.
The 'cellular' category mentioned breaks down into sub-categories, one of which is 'telephones'
If you are selling mobile phones, then you should submit to the telephones category, as that is the most appropriate.
Does this help, or have I misunderstood?
To clarify my question.
I was wondering what position I might expect for the key term "mobile phones" in the Yahoo UK directory if for example the name of my company and web site is:
XYZ Mobile Phones
And I submit my site under this category:
Entertainment > Consumer Electronics > Communications and Information Management > Telephones > Cellular
The current listings on the first page for the key term "mobile phones" do NOT include this category.
Also within this particular category -- there are no other site names that include both of these key terms (mobile phones) in their title.
Since this Cellular category would alphabetically display before Directories -- I was just wondering if my site would end up on the first page -- or if it would be shuffled to some other page.
I am trying to make sense as to how Yahoo UK displays their listings -- which certainly is a lot different than US results!!
but before submitting, ask yourself whether your site really does fit in that category. if not, why not? how about amending the site to fit that category? is "mobile phones" the most appropriate search term? is that the term that most people will use to find the products you sell? what other search terms might be used? what categories show up for those terms? is your site most likely to be placed in one of those categories instead?
a bit of thought and a bit of planning can make all the difference !!
