Had a phone call from them today - they sell PPC and are targetting companies who pay for Google's Adwords.

I couldn't help noticing their rather impressive pagerank ;)

They are apparently getting 1,000,000 searches a week!

Is it just us or do they only show one page of results?

just the 1 - on some sort of rotation

Wouldn't you rather have this service for free, instead of paying BT's 192 service?

I do feel that more people "selling services" will be using this, instead of those "buying."

I've seen this happen with some well known directories.

They are the makers of the UK Info Disk which is an awesome CD for searching for companies or people. Entire electoral roll, all companies registered in UK, phone fax but sadly no e-mail.

No they're not, that's www.192.com that make the Info Disc (I had the pleasure of being on that bandwagon a while ago!).

Search192.com is a completely different operation - one that has been in the press a lot recently owing to their spam faxing techniques (The CEO of 192.com regularly has MI's over any association with search192.com)

Just to set the record straight.

Ahhh, thanks JamJar.

I must admit, as soon as I had to register my e-mail to get the information, I canned it.

>targetting companies who pay for Google's Adwords.

I think war has been declared in this area. I've heard of many people getting calls/spam from Overture and Google ad campaigns. The game is afoot... maybe cpc's will come back down to reality after all.

As a business I think search192 stinks, basically ?
Not only does government but now entrepreneurs, who care not for staff if they do not perform but also ripping off business by charging them ludicrous amounts of money which is basically free on the net anyway.
Keyword my bottom !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

search192.com uses espotting results. you can see this by right clicking on a link and watching the bottom left of the browser carefully.

i'd guess that what they are doing is no more than adding customers to their own espotting PPC account - ie, they run their own expotting PPC account and add other people's sites to it and charge a lot extra.

In sheer frustration with BT I signed up (using a junkable e-mail address) a couple of weeks ago for 192, and I have only had 1 spam mail from them thus far. They don't go into the filter just yet

On a side issue, I like the fact that when I'm filling out the registration form for Lycos Email, and when it asks me my father's name for the password reminder, it tells me that my dad's name is not long enough... Hmmmm....

The google toolbar is grey for this site.

Are they banned?

Why care for them?

lycos mail asks for fathers name? what about those of us that never knew our fathers??? the world is going downhill ...

Humm I am always dubious about a company that does not list their contact address on the site, and only lets you contact them by e-mail. I wouldn't pay a penny to them, the site looks quite cheap considering they are asking people to advertise.

If I had a 1000 hits a day it wouldn't cover the cost of all my Fax Paper they've wasted. Come on Guys- Only the Naive or Brain Dead would give any operation like this a p or could that be pee.
They have no Postal address on their site- "suck" is a a word that springs to mind. I dislike marketing operations like this with passion...... along with those selling advertising space on the back of a charity, that might get 1% If they are lucky.

When are we going to get verified stats that we could believe. "1,000,000 searches a week!" Yeah?????

I wouldn't touch them with Sven Erikson's :):):) ???

(Someone else can explain that to our friends across the pond)

It is run jointly with Ian the boy millionaire of the webworld along with I think SMI and Lonsdale.
They have small offices here and there and they close when the call rate drops.

GB
I would have thought that my mail (suggest you re-read it) made it clear the reasons for disliking ALL marketing operations like this. Anyone who wastes more than 2 sheets of my Fax paper is definately doomed!!!
I have no connection with any SE/SEO et al of that I assure you.

Maybe I'm missing something here but werent you the same gb who wrote
"As a business I think search192 stinks, basically ?
.....Keyword my bottom !!!!!!!!!!!!!! "

.....and I'm harsh??????
Must be missing something?
