I noticed that Google now has a Google.co.gg

I'm not quite sure why Guernsey has this honour, however, every business on Guernsey must be delighted. ;)

In fact - I demand a 'Google Lancashire' as well - we are bigger than Guernsey!

OUCH - Lichtenstein already on the map. Along with Montserrat, Saint Helena, Cocos Islands, Norfolk Island. Even Jersey...

Google.va (Vatican City State)

Delivers results in a choice of Pig Latin and Attic Greek :)

I had expected on the Guernsey Google to see filters for only .gg domains.

But this feature isn't present.

So I looked around a little more and found that this is also the case on some really quite big googles. google.co.nz.

Is the plan to make local filters for every .co.country-code or will this honour be left to just the larger countries. Can't be a huge amount of work for a country code filter. I have the sql here ;)

Google UK does filter based on .uk or located in the UK but .other domains ... I guess this is more work, and places like Guernsey are less likely to have datacenters.. unless they're there for tax breaks.

Ian - you're showing your age. ;) Was it the peoples popular front?

I'm really not sure what some of those smaller Google sites are meant to acheive.

Branding?

Age or political affiliation??

I'm not sure what they are meant to achieve either.

Google.co.gg is the smallest I've seen yet.

On the other hand judging by what we hear about americans understanding of Europe - the Googleplex was probably told by someone that Guernsey was part of the EU and needed special consideration.

Not quite as outrageous as Google in Klingon [google.com]

The smaller 'Googles' give heavier weight to sites that are hosted in that particular area. Very useful if you are shopping, not so good if you are wanting information.

Hi Gsx, and a warm welcome to wmw.

I wonder how many users and sites apply to google.gg - not many, I'd guess.
