Freeserve using Google

I've just noticed that at some point on the afternoon of February 14th Freeserve went over to using Google results on its SERP instead of Inktomi - shame there are still Overture results at the top but a nice Valentines day gift all the same!

Hi Olias, I can't see this at the moment. Perhaps it's a stop gap filler if the the Ink DB was down.
Are you still seeing this same result?

Yep - I see Google under Overture results. Not sure how Freeserve users will take to the Google ransom note though! At least nothing to worry about with PR0 here that 5p can't cure :)

I never use freeserve Engine - I only noticed it because my referals went from about 6 a day to 60 a day, so then went to find out why.

I dont see what you are seeing.

All I see is Overture results and an Overture advanced search options.

Don't see google there at all.

I dare say if Overture share some of their income with freeserve for the increased exposure they must be quite attractive but it is bad for freeserve searchers to only be able to find paid entries.

Freeserve surfers have been getting all the Overture paid listings ever since Overture opened in the UK. Nothing new there - but Google is there via the 3 ISPs I've tried - but you need to choose a search where there are no Overture listings to fill the first page.

Some of this I find extremely strange.

As far as I know Overture doesn't have any advanced search options.

Freeserve does.

On some searches I am getting pure Google.

Some I'm getting Google with Overture top 3.

Others I'm getting unidentified (Looksmart??) results.

P.S. On some terms I'm getting pure Google where there are Overture.com paid listings. Do they only take Overture UK?

Mine too - great news.

Does lead to a tad confusing search layout - freeserve pages from inktomi, sponsored listings from overture, and real SERPs from Google.

Also it says "search powered by overture" when it isn't... unless... nope same old same old on overture - now that would have been big news ;)

I'm seeing the Overture logo as supplying results, but only Google results, and not quite the same way as Google here (California).

Quite. I feel that this is both great news and frightening.

I would be happier if there were at least two proper search engine indices dominating the non-paid market, but if it has to be one I'm glad it's Google.

Well, it still shows Ink and Overture here.

It's a mystery.

I'm seeing the Ink and Overture logos, and I can see two overture results. Below that are Google results, yet they are labelled as Inktomi. However, they are definitely Google.

A couple of things are amusing me.

First some of the sites that are listed in google are not showing in the freeserve search so they (when I look) are serving paid results I think from Overture and poss Inktomi.

Secondly Freeserve's own search does not allow me to find a site which I have on freeserve's own hosting package in a freeserve sub domain .... !! which is extensively listed in google and others.

Now if you think about this second point it is quite bizzare that an ISP would install a search solution that excluded or penalised their own customers web sites from results!!

Its sure a funny old world!
