I know the SEs from UK, but I donīt know them from Ireland.

Which one would you recommend for promotions? Any stats, numbers like there are in the section of the Europaen SEs for other countries?
[I thought UK & Ireland are in Europe but I didnīt pay attention in school during the geography lessons....;-)]

Hi oLeon,

You're right about UK & Ireland being in Europe, so you must have been awake at that time. ;)

The engines/directories in Ireland (not all in Ireland, some are US-based):

In alphabetical order:
AltaVista Ireland
Doras
Google (Gaelic)
ieSearch
Ireland By Net
MavicaNet
NiceOne
Swift

As far as traffic is concerned, I'm not in a strong position to advise as none of my site logs show referals from anywhere apart from AV and Google.

UK & Ireland forum was started for some important reasons: The countries are both predominantly English speaking within Europe. Many of the search engines and directories move from USA to UK as a first stage to getting into Europe. Additionally, the UK, as a region, is quite active in this sector, although, many other countries are achieving better growth than the UK. It seemed logical to segregate the compatible areas and, it's proved very popular.

There are no Irish SEs or directories worth bothering about; everyone uses Google.

The list of Irish directories forgot a couple:
[purplepages.ie...]
[irishsearch.net...]

FYI, niceone and browseireland seem to be the only domestic directories/SEs that Google will recognise links from.

What do you mean 'recognise links from'?

BK, not all incoming links are "recognised" by G; the ones that are can count in PR.

I would agree glengara.

Dont bother with an irish engine / directory. None of them are up to snuff and a lot (eg doras and local.ie have dodgy futures)

most of the Irish portals such as eircom.net use google as their prefered engine so focus on that and fast....

Doras must be doing fairly well due to it's link from the Yahoo! serps. Could be worth a listing simply to catch yahoo's overspill of traffic.
