Mind you dredd2 you didn't mention any about the update review offered for only £25 we'll revisit your site review in UK Plus and update it within ten working days.

Trying to keep something from us :)

Nope.

I think they used to offer results on Ask, but I could be wrong, they show results on freeserve but don't think that would drive a lot of traffic to ukplus as I'm sure most people would just use the results from freeserve

According to UK Plus they're on "Freeserve, MSN, Netscape and Yahoo"

And, yes, they used to be on Ask.

Have you ever seen them on MSN? I haven't

Well, I've bent the plastic to see what happens and will tell you if anything worthwhile occurs. They don't seem to be showing e-spotting results anymore. How long has that been going on for?

If my memory serves me, they have a "Try your search at UKPlus" stuck well out of the way at the foot of the screen at MSN

I wouldn't bother personally, low traffic, poor descriptions, it produces a lot of 404's whenever I go near it.
Plus if we all boycott it they will have to drop the charges.

Maserable winkers!

Had a dig around MSN and the search UKPLUS is within the drop down menu search on the top, but I wonder how many people use it, I'll bet my pocket money this week that most people just enter the search and hit enter

£99 for for a level 3 search facility... must be a joke. I've just checked their 'partners'... the serious ones hide UKplus well out of harms way.

I'll steer well clear!

My guess is that most MSN traffic is generated by idiots typing their search string in the IE address bar :)

"most MSN traffic is generated by idiots typing their search string in the IE address bar"

I completely agree there are so many thick people out there. I have heard of people that type the url into the search box in yahoo, as they think that it is the browser.

Its not a question of "thick" or not. People will just use what works, most people (not us obviously) don't or couldn't care less what is a url and what is a search term. They just want what they're looking for and fast.

If it works once - typing a search term in the address bar - then it will be used again.

A lot of traffic from msn is from this group but more people have one of the MS sites as their homepage (hotmail, msn, etc). I think searches from people using the address bar turn up with "auto" something in the referer.

UK Plus... The cheek - I'd never dream of charging so much for something that just won't deliver. Maybe I should ? ...

Is this the first of many of the small search engine/portals to go this route?

"Is this the first of many of the small search engine/portals to go this route?"

Yes!

UK Plus, like most other Web sites are desperate for revenue. For the search engines and directories, charging to list/consider sites is one of the few 'acceptable' forms of generating revenue.

It's unfortunate, but this trend is going to grow.

Heck, I even forked up the money to get considered by UKPlus. Don't forget the prices quoted before don't include VAT, for which you have to add a whopping 17.5%.

We paid £57.57 to be considered for UKPlus. Considering that one person in something like 300 who visits our site goes on to by something, it's quite an investment for a second-ranking directory.

I'll keep you posted as to what happens with our UKPlus submission.

Does anybody know how long it might take them to get around to visiting our site if we've used the 90 days submission method?

If it’s anything like Yahoo probably 89 days :)

Just got a few freebies listed, all submitted in the last month. If your demographics tie in there is decent traffic to be had, I wouldn't base ROI on a 12 month period though.

Did a fairly detailed check on some stats last night. UKPlus has produced zip in two months on two UK sites of ours (not that they're well placed). Some time back we certainly did have referrals - my suspicion now is that they were probably other webmasters...certainly not prospective clients.

PFI? nope

>If your demographics tie in there is decent traffic to be had

I will change that to "there was decent traffic to be had".

>PFI? nope

Agreed!

So I wonder how long it will be before ukplus slide along the same old road as ukmax, another fine UK search portal :)
