Aol?

How do they rank?

Having looked through the logs lately, I noticed a 3280% increase in traffic coming from AOL on the month - how nice I thought. Now somehow, I've managed to get to number one in their uk directory and number 3 in the main one for terms like "web design", "web designer" etc. Anyone know why I may be featuring quite so highly with them? Is it all just a flash in the pan?

Been there too... I couldn't find any rhyme or reason for it other than random rotation. Odds are you will sink in the next update, make the most of it while it lasts.

Is your site best optimezed for Inktomi?

So far as I know, it's not really optimised for anyone. I did make an effort to get some good rankings in Google, but ran out of time after that.

I think i know why. For AOL UK they use inktomi results for the main search and ODP data (open directory project) for the uk directory results. You have probably just been accepted for the ODP and or your site has been included by inktomi. In terms of USA AOL they are pretty much the same. You need to look at AOLs relevancy rating that they give to your site if its listed first. Usually if you have a good keyword in your title that does the trick and will give you 90% plus this coupled with a similar mention in the titles description and even sometimes in your url will almost certainly see you top the page if not then a good result.
