Submitted my site to http:www.askalix.com to get a link, got a call back saying they wanted 200 pounds + VAT for it!
I explained to them that this was a lot of money for not much in return.
They claim to have 180 affiliates and over 80,000 searches per hour! I didn't sign up but was wondering if anyone ever had any experience or a listing with them, if so, was it worth it?

I think I already know the answer!

Thanks in advance.

That would work out to 1,920,000 searches a day, considering that they aren't even on the radar at alexa.com, it makes that number doubtful. I would give careful consideration to the ROI of such a listing.

I don't have any direct experience with them, so that opinion should be preceded with a definite FWIW.

>have 180 affiliates

Could be PPC affiliates using search boxes to drive the traffic.

It isn't worth 10p let alone £200! I pretty much try everything and have been in AskAlex for nearly a year without 1 single referral. Oh - someone rang me once asking if I would like to be listed at the top of search engines - they could guarantee it. They obviously thought I was a sucker for punishment. I've got more traffic from Hermia.com!!!

80,000 searches an hour? Probably tele-marketers looking for phone numbers!!!

They actually charge affiliates to carry their results. We were going to use them until we saw the price! To be honest you're better off sticking to the better known business directories like scoot and yell in my opinion!

Cheers for your responses. Just confirmed What I already suspected.

One thing that did make me laugh though was that they seemed to be unaware of what was actually going on in the search engine world. They were quite taken-a-back when I pointed out to them that our site has a top 5 listing on the global SE google, across lots of keywords and it cost nothing at all.

What I don't like is that these "insignificant" search engines and directories lie and pressure small/new businesses to fork out their cash. These tactics can't give their business any longetivity, surely.
