Doesn't appear to make sense!

I would be incredibly grateful for any pointers in conquering this engine/directory. It claims to be a human edited directory but there is no order of quality. From what I have seen, the top 3 results are invariably amateur websites. Please help chaps, I am new to this game and OVERWHELMED by all the info in these forums. I wish I had found you all earlier.

I think they have a click tracker that moves sites up the list the more users click on them.

Now that is interesting. Silly question - but how sure are you about this? Is this a similar system to directhit?

I happen to know an editor there. UK Plus is a human edited directory, but the editors are employees there. You can submit sites there and they review them.

Can I take it a step further and ask;

in counting clicks, does uk plus also track length of stay (to guage value of information)?

If I was to enter my site, say every morning, via uk plus, would I benefit from this?

Once you've been redirected to the remote site, your "length of stay" cannot be monitored.

It is usual that the click tracking software will know you've been to the site so, don't waste your time to try that. You can probabably get away with it once.

Any suggestions about fooling their software - e.g. would using different IP addresses each morning do the trick.

I don't understand this - what is a hidden keyword field and how do you ensure they enter the 'right' keywords.

stavs, you'd be wasting your time. Tricks have all been tried and doors closed to stop exactly that.

To be honest, the best bet is to let the site find its own popularity and concentrate on site promotion in other areas, such as, advertising, press releases, promotions, etc. Keep at this and click pop will soon show up.

It is a field that only the editors of the directory have access to, when you submit they will add what they think are appropriate keywords and in some cases may even assign them weight.

You have to play the "imagine you are an editor" game.
