>negligable

Spot on.
The big danger with them is that they have a *very* persuasive commission led salesforce, they can really work the market very effectively and promise more than they can deliver.
Still keeping an eye on things but I really don't see them getting things right anytime soon.

have you ever seen a web site produced by them, I've come across a few so far in my travels. normally consist of one page all with same background, page layout(thats if you want to call it a layout), contact page and of course the link to yell

You're far better using The Yellow Pages print version!

Yes, I'll echo all points. They changed the design of the site some six months or so ago and it seems slower and more difficult to use.
Honestly, I think YP is perfect for finding plumbers and take-away restaurant phone numbers. Would you buy web design or SEO from it? I think not.
It's over priced, anyway.

So......Everything under the Yellow Pages umbrella is being re-branded as YEL, under a new company, Yellow Pages-Business Pages-Talking Pages etc and.......Yel.co.uk.

What a stroke of Pure Genius-NOT!!!!

Hi all,
We advertised in Yell for the last 12 months.
It's great for generating enquiries. The coversations usually go like this:

Caller: "Hello, I got your number from Yell"

Me: "Oh right :)" *reaches for pen and paper*

Caller: "Do you offer website design?"

Me: "Yes that's right :) How can I help?"

Caller: "I'm calling from e-blah magazine - we publish tomorrow & we've got a quarter size page left - it's normally £5000 but for we can do it for a tenner"

Me: "Oh right :("

We didn't bother to renew with Yell - although their sales people won't take the hint either.

Hi Shuffler,
Welcome to Webmaster World.

Thanks for the information.

Such a shame that it costs so much to tell all your potential suppliers you are ready to receive their sales calls. ;)

Not even search engine value in having a link in Yell.

Have ANY directories worked for you?

Thanks engine,

I've added our site to a handful of small directories. Most of them seem to be used by companies looking for potential clients rather than the other way around.

Interestingly we are just about to start work on a directory for a client.

Shuffler,
Do keep us informed about the directories that are worthwhile.

Absolutely. It helps everyone here. It does still tend to boil down to our usual, well known directories.

Currently, I'm compiling a list of directories and will post it in UK & Ireland forums.

A strange thing happened today.

Yell seem to have left our link up even though we haven't renewed - and today we got an enquiry from it! It looks like a good one too - maybe I will renew afterall....

An enquiry from Yell! Quick, share it around!

I'm delighted for you and I hope it works out.

Well, a letting management agency in Manchester got an enquiry off me today through Yell, but I was searching for the specific agency's name through a meta-searcher.
There's no way I would have gone to Yell to search in the first place.
