Looks like the first major update of AV UK's index since August. All pages on numerous sites produced since August and up to (and including) 2nd January are now listed. I've won a few and lost a few (done rather well on our favorite SEO phrase #1 and suck on SEO phrase #2).

A rather interesting selection of related directory categories if you look for web site promotion (phrase #2) - so I think they have a little work to do yet - but it seems to be giving more relevent results than last time. I spent 4 months as #1 for 'tools' - though the ones I sell are not a lot of use in the garden! Now they are showing power tools - probably a more useful resource for the average surfer!

Moved a little on some stuff we were playing there, but nothing major (consumer goods).

I thought there was an update there in November? Or was this a case of being respidered?

Could I pick your brain? When was the last time and turn around time of a page you added there?

No. it must be an update. Actually, Brett, it's thrown up something I'd like to show you, because I've been saying for a while that UK Altavista is easy to crack, and it's related to your whole themes thing.
I did some work last year for an UK company, but all they would let me work with was title bar and description. Some companies are like that as I'm sure you'll well know.
Anyway, just from title bar and description, and using your themes deal to mix it up a bit, I have got the following results on uk.altavista.com:
electricity utilities #1
gas utilities #1
electricity supplier #3
gas and electricity #2
gas and electricity supplier #1
electricity bills #2
utilities #9

I'm sure there are more, but we stopped working for them (amicably, I might add) and I just checked up on them after reading this thread. And it's definitely an update.
Cheers

I submitted an index page on 17th Dec. It wasn't listed on 16th Jan but it is now.

Pages added on 3rd Jan haven't appeared yet - to agree with makemetop's dates - although one new site that I only submitted the index on the 3rd, shows links to the site and one small page that has little text under a large map that could only have been found from the site itself.

........it must be to do with 12 months of learning from you guys. :):):) Thank you all. Now have an extra 12 pages in. One that I submitted back in mid-November.
Also some new top 5 spots including No 1 spots on certain Keywords....like "overseas video conversions" and "Overseas video conversions but what is www.kiltmakers doing at no 4?????

No I'm not complaining - dont care who is following me.

>Could I pick your brain?

I stopped submitting any site/pages to AV UK directly in September (about the same time as Inktomi) and have just let scooter do it's thing. I had noticed in the previous major update that 'found' pages were doing better - and wanted to see if that was luck or AV preference. It took a long time to find out this time but it has taken every page that I linked to and all sites/pages have done pretty well. The deep spidering is in my logs on the 2nd January with follow up crawls on the 3rd and 4th.

I saw shuffling of results in November and about a week ago and it did seem that some pages which had been directly submitted by other people did show in both updates. This last update is clearly, however, a complete recrawl of sites and refresh of their DB.
