Hi Guys,

Im David ( Irish ) and live in Spain . My main market is UK and Ireland on the internet and my sites represent bricks and mortar companies.

There is more poeple in the main forum making noise about an alternative to google. Im not seeing much traffic from anywhere else other than google ( depsite good rankings in Yahoo and MSN ).

Are any of you guys thinking in other engines, whats your future plans. For me im going to sit tight on google , but will be casting an eye around at other engines ans would welcome your thoughts.

Happy Chrimbo and new Year.

David

I wouldn't discount Yahoo/MSN and AJ/Teoma as these can provide significant traffic - but their user base is much less techie than that of Google.

If your product marketplace is technology based Google will dominate, if it is consumer based then the others can provide up to 50% of traffic.

Hi Ian,

Thanks for the reply. I am in the adventure holiday market and see the following:

Google ( all variations ) : 77%
Yahoo ( all variants ) : 7%
MSN ( all variants ) : 7%
Others Balance.

I am now going to do a keyword analysis for the last six months and segregate the results by engine. I am going to see if there is any difference in the type of search performed by users of the differing engines. Your post suggests that i should take more traffic from non google engines. I have plenty of coverage in these engines for the word profiles that do well in Google. I will report results back to here .

Meanwhile do other members for the UK and Ireland section have any comments? Where do you get your traffic? What are your thoughts on the type of searches performed.

I run a translation agency campaign and I get nearly 100% of customer queries and sales from Google searches, despite advertising also on Overture UK and Yahoo! UK.
