Has anyone in the UK got any observations/additions to this [webmasterworld.com] thread in the av forum?

AV.uk takes a long time to index new sites. I submitted a site to the UK database on Nov 12/2000, as of today the site cannot be found using url:mysite.co.uk. This same site is in the .com database even though it was never submitted there. Scooter stops in for a regular visit, takes a deep crawl and that is it.

Everything I have been able to find out about AV.uk confirms that this is normal. After a site is added to the database, AV will add new pages on its own.

I've found AV UK to be one of the quickest to list new sites. Sites/ pages listing in 48 hours has been a regular experience though it really is hit and miss as some stubbornly refuse to list for weeks.

At risk of cross-posting to above mentioned forum where makemetop has commented on UAs. I seen four distinct agents:

scooter.aveurope.co.uk
scooterr.aveurope.co.uk
ukukfe*.aveurope.co.uk
ukaddurlr.aveurope.co.uk

The first two relate to crawling, the second to submission.

ukukfe is similar to snat.sv.av.com coming straight after you submit your page. ukaddurl then comes along to index the page. Different UAs for each:
Scooter-1.0 seems to index pages whereas
Scooter/1.0 seems to check them after submission

Scooter.aveurope.co.uk will pop up later and do a page grab then a half-decent deep crawl images 'n' all for a couple of days. Then, as stated by makemetop, scooterr.aveurope.co.uk will pop in for the next 3-4 days to check up on the site.

I've also found the url: and host: commands to be unreliable on AV UK recently (and highly variable.) Far better to locate your site in a search and then click on <more sites.>

One big warning at the moment is that AV UK seems to be in a state of flux. The perrennial favourite search 'search engine optimisation' is tying itself in knots today, with a bunch of engineering sites cropping up and a beersite at 32. Not that makemetop will mind as his site has done nicely out of it.

There must be something in the air, Inktomi's been jerking us around as well and now FAST has performed an update today- more blood on the carpet I fear.

Evilchog, welcome to the forums. Thanks for the input. It is a real state of flux and who knows what will happen next.

It's interesting to note from where AV is sending out Scooter.

Hi Evilchog.

Welcome to WMW. That was a nice surprise you gave me for AV UK. I did even better for the other favorite - web site promotion. May it last a while (but I doubt it) ;)

Methinks makemetop needs to give others a break ;)
