I have had a phone call from Infospace trying to sell me a top listing on a particular key phrase. Their network includes toxiclemon, dogpile, redhotchilli, telegraph, and mirror.co.uk. I was told that they get 40 million searches a month! The cost of a sponsored link is £799 a year. Has anyone had any experiences of these web sites or advertising with them. Is it worth the gamble? They can't tell me how many searches there are for any key word, but at £15 per week it sounds ok. Has anybody any thoughts?

Are they stating that they get 40 million genuine searches in just the UK per month? I would ask them specifically how many they got in March.

I would expect that they may have had 40M in December/January, and it is possible that they are using those numbers. 40M sounds high to me, but it is possible.

You should also be wary of the fact that they can't tell you how many searches there were for the phrase(s) that you want in March. As a general rule on the web, unless I know the numbers, I won't buy it.

I'm with BD on that one regarding the specific numbers. I wouldn't do it on that basis alone.

Thanks for your speedy feedback. They tell me that they have 40m UK searches on average a month but, of course it is easy to say that! I think I will give them a miss as they can't give me specific numbers for keyword searches.

I have taken out similar adverts with a reseller. KPosition contacted me and I was very sceptical - however I took a 5 BIG search volume two word terms on single year payment of £599 each.

Out of 5, two are performing REALLY well - the others (due to ToxicLemon, DogPile and RedHotChilli all dropping in the SERPS) not so - however this reseller offer a guarantee of positions for terms for first month or money back....

If you can get big terms along the lines of estate agents (Over 1 million search terms) or good terms like secured loans (small volume but high conversion potential affiliate-wise) then it is worth trying out - IMHO
