Someone told me recently, that it was a good idea to pay to get into Fast and Inktomi, which will then get you into some of the top UK SE's - I know things are changing all the time in the SE world - so is this statement still true?
Any help appreciated.

It all depends on how quickly you want to get in - if you are in a hurry then it is a good idea to pay. (For example if you have a site on a timed event such as Euro 2004)
If you are not in a hurry, being well linked will eventually get you spidered by both FAST and Inktomi.

It depends on the size of your site, but it can be 3-6 months
