How to get listed on Google.co.uk

without having to change to UK hosting

I'm pretty sure that I am probably losing a great deal of traffic due to not being listed on google uk. I have a .com domain hosted in the USA, I live in England and my website is a high traffic website about England.

I've never changed host before so am worried about that and what may go wrong, plus i am very happy with my USA host because they are cheap and reliable.

IS there another way to get listed on google uk without having to change host? I have the .co.uk version of my domain and thought maybe if i have that hosted, and do a redirect to the .com site, this may sneak me onto google.co.uk where it definately should be?

Anyone know?
Many thanks

chrisandsarah,

.

But you would risk duplicate content problems. If you wanted to make a permanent change to a .co.uk domain you have the backlinks problem. The only solution I have found it to move the hosting but before you do, make sure that your UK host uses a UK IP address.

Read this thread carefully as it gives you a range of pointers to ensure a listing in google.co.uk [webmasterworld.com]

So its NOT possible to appear in Google.co.uk [google.co.uk] listings unless you change to a UK host...

Correct, that's the effective way to ensure it.

I'd have to question this. I run a network of UK targetted sites (all .co.uk extensions). They are all hosting in the US, however I get listings under google.co.uk as well as google.com

If anyone wants the specifics sticky me and i'll post you the url's etc

hope this helps

If you use a .co.uk domain you will appear in the Google.co.uk UK filter.

If you have a UK hosting company, with a UK IP address, then you will also appear in the UK results, even if you have a .com alias.

The safest bet is to use both.

Chrisandsarah
I have a couple of sites, .co.uk and hosted in the US for Price, and they are both on the UK local results.
Bin there for a year or two, no problems.

I think you can keep to hosting in the US. It might be that your particular host is the problem. A few of my friends host in the US no problem. As I think we are seeing in this thread.
