Definative guide to UK and Ireland

Could anybody put in one post the following:

1. Search engines in order of importance for UK and Ireland.

2. Is is possible to list free of charge or where is best to pay for listing if there are options.

3. SEO importances for these engines. ie KW density etc.

I am thinking that it is good idea to launch duplicate sites targeted at different search engines. Disallow google from the yahoo one and vica versa...

My ambition in my niche market is to have a strong presence in all engines, but am beginning to discover this cant be done with one site?
