I am seeing this engine appear in the top 10 referrals for some of my sites now (without the Directory listing). Anyone else? Seems like an up and coming engine.

Not a bad directory, well optimised so, given the current climate will do well -- one of the many grips that G has yet to overcome, but hey, chuck in some hidden text and you too can compete, for now, but your cards are probably marked.

Once again I would be concerned that any directory that does not indicate the owning business name and address is likely to be a fly by night, and may not be around for the long term.

Though on the plus side it is quite neatly put together and the directory does look like it is a good quality directory.

By the looks of it, they're another Infospace powered site (like ToxicLemon, LimeSearch) They don't appear to have any content of their own.

Infospace are powering alot of these nowadays, just wrappers for their content under various names.

I think that it is in fact just those three; does anyone know of any others? That is nothing in comparison to the number of Espotting (2000+), Overture and Mirago affiliates. Let's keep it in perspective. In terms of number of affiliates, Infospace is the *smallest*.

Red Hot Chilli does have content of its own - they have a small but good selection of hand picked, reviewed, links. Not much, but better than a poke in the eye.

There are currently over 100 active small, general, UK search facilities. Each of these is dependent upon one of the PPC affiliate companies. A few offer some of their own data in combination with the PPC information.

There are also several thousand smaller niche sites that also offer PPC results from the likes of Overture and Espotting especially. Mirago is doing a good job of attracting affiliate sites, and I would expect to see more Webfinder affiliates sooner rather than later.

As these new sites grow, others fade; there is only so much room in the market. If one site, such as Red Hot Chilli, starts getting more traffic, it is really only replacing another, such as Search Demon. Swings and Roundabouts.

You shouldn't be surprised to see sites like this appear more though. The recent update has pushed out many sites across many sectors, and made the main SERPs more focused on directories and information based sites. These PPC based sites fit this idea, and in small numbers aren't an issue. It is up to Google now to make sure that they don't overpopulate the listings.

I was looking into the sizes of some sites and I notice that there are sites in the US that have well over 2 million pages indexed in them and they are just sending traffic to PPC partners. One of these companies is public and a big player. I suppose if Google starts charging for inclusion then these mega sites would become very big customers indeed.
