Aol UK Geo-filtering same as Google

When did they sort this out?

Just checked some of my sites on Aol.co.uk and looks like they've stopped the crude geo-filtering based on domain extension. Now the results are pretty identical to Google.co.uk. About time and glad to see it. Let's hope the rest follow.

It's a funny old world... we have just spent hundreds, maybe thousands including research time working around geo problems and then they fix it.

What will they pre-empt us on next?

Sorry I'm wrong, the geotargetting looks the same on google.co.uk

But results appear very different when using site:.co.uk instead of the UK filter, this is because of the Florida update and SEO filters I think.

Any more information on this?

I want to set up a site that will be found by UK SEs, and have read posts (dated July! Time flies, all out of date) recommending co.uk and UK hosting, neither of which I really want (okay, I'll go with the co.uk but the hosting I have is top notch and I have lots of web space on it, only it's based in the UK)

Sooner or later the SEs have got to get a bit more sophisticated than this!

.co.uk is pretty good for getting into the UK Only searches.

You don't need UK hosting, AFAIK, as long as you have a '.co.uk'. I host everything in the US and haven't noticed any issues.

Cheeers, Bobby. One day they'll actually look at content or directory inclusion (uk directories)

:-)

We decided to stick with UK hosting because our customers are in the UK. If your UK ISP is part of LYNX (sp?) then you can be directly connected to several ISPs and if your users are with that ISP then they will be served pages quicker.

sorry if this doesn't make sense, but I was told that basically if you can get really close to your customers then the pages will be served faster to them. IMO this is very important if you are selling online.
