Sound recording difficulties

Static from two different headsets

A few days ago I posted a message seeking advice on how to record sound files for uploading to the web, and got many recommendations which were helpful. (I have no experience with this sort of thing, and it's a new area for me.)

I've now tested two different headsets, one Sennheiser and one Logitech USB, and am using the Amadeus recording software. In both cases, there's always distinct static in the background of every test recording, making them unusable. I think I have all the sound preference settings right, but don't know for sure. I realize this is a vague question, but I'm not sure how to troubleshoot it. Maybe it's interference from some other electrical device? Maybe it's always this way? Maybe I have one of the many settings wrong, but I don't know which one? Any tips will be welcome.

A long shot, but - I'm presuming playback is via iTunes?

I've experienced similar problems - albeit from ripping mono vinyl. Solution in my case was to uncheck 'sound enhancer'. Don't ask me why but it worked!

iTunes prefs > playback > Sound enhancer...

As I say - long shot.
