Classic failing to start ...

Just did my security/OS updates and Classic is failing to start now.. I get the happy mac screen, then it moves to the "Mac OS 9.2" screen. and freezes. Things I have done that failed:

1) removed all extensions and placed them in "disabled folder"

2) removed all control panel items and moved them to "disable folder"

3) deleted all preferences after making backup

4) Removed OS 9 system folder and re-installed Classic (have a backup of the folder)

OK now after that last one, I am stumped. Is there something other than the OS9 system folder that is needed to start classic? Can't exactly test to see if OS9 is bootable on a G5 so that's out of the question ... Any tips appreciated!

Oh yeah ... Powermac G5 -- OS 10.4.2

Argh ...

Archive & Install of Tiger finally did the trick. Was hoping to not have to take the time to do that... but ... It works now. :0)

I have a couple of machines, one of which can boot into MacOs 9 native as well as Classic via MacOsX

When I used to run it native, occasionally, MacOs9 would crash so spectacularly that it wouldn't start again. Unlike MacOs X, there's an easy way forward - copy all the Classic system files and extensions to another partition (or even a sub-folder). If Classic breaks, just replace the broken folders with a copy of the copy you made...
