Developing Dashboard Widgets?

Any widget makers here?

Just wondering, is anyone else around here was developing Dashboard Widgets? Is Widget development "on topic" for this forum?

timster, I am looking into it also. I had a couple of pretty cool ideas (at least in my mind). But that's the cool thing about Widgets, there are some of them that are interesting at best to some, and treasures to others.

I think this is the prefect place for your post, considering nobody else can use Widgets unless they are using Tiger. ;0)

We have been developing widgets since the new OS came out. The learning curve for some of the more complicated ones was steep, others were not as bad.

Our first widget is actually making money, good money, after its debut on the Apple site, the second debuted today and is more humorous then money making, but it does show what can be done.

I think a Widget forum may be in order soon as the base of users increases (Windows Longhorn is supposed to have them whenever that comes out)

I'm almost finished with my first widget and I'd have to say that widgets are very "on topic". While making my widget, I was having difficulty finding relevant documentation for what I wanted to do and opening the examples supplied by Apple's developer tools didn't help much. Hopefully, this forum will grow and help others.

I´ve developed a very simple website search widget and it was a great traffic generator for our site. Being posten on apple.com probably didn t hurt either. I think the clue to get people to actually download and use your widget - in addition to providing a usefull tool - is to make the interface up to scratch. People dont seem keen to install stuff that looks cheap on their Widget Desktop. Spend some serious time in photoshop to learn how to make the proper aqua effect. Well worth the effort.
