Import mpeg/avi/wmv into iMovie?

Or does it just accept DV?

I don't know why I'm having such a hard time finding the answer to this question but I've have no success tracking down a definitive answer.

I have various mpeg/avi/wmv files that I'd like to combine and/or edit in iMovie before burning to a DVD. Choosing Import... from the menu and drag-and-drop do not seem to work. I purchased the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component thinking that might help, but no dice.

Anyone else importing these files types into iMovie? Would getting QuickTime Pro make a difference? Is it even possible to import any of these into iMovie, or will I be forced to convert them to a DV format first? And--if so--can you recommend a conversion program?

Thanks in advance for your help.

iMovie will only accept a DV stream format (aka DV) for input.

Quicktime Pro will convert a number of other formats to DV stream, but it will not do WMV.

That's about all I can help you with, I don't do much conversion from other formats for use with iMovie.

Thanks for the reply. I assumed that QT Pro would make the conversion, but wasn't certain. Looks like I'll be adding that after I get my Tiger upgrade.
