wireless internet help

need help connecting with a G3 and no knowledge

Can anyone help me out with hooking up a G3 IMAC with a cable internet wireless connection? The other computer in my household has the cable modem attached and I am forced to find another way to connect. I have looked at the Airport options, but am confused if I have to get multiple items, and then how to configure them if I do. Can anyone please help me out in the most basic of answers as I am completely lost when it comes to networking?
Also, I have heard that you can network the connection through the power outlets in the house? Does anyone have info on this and the quality?

Why not either connect the cable modem to the G3 and share it via the airport card. Or ditch the modem and get a adsl router. (By cable modem do you mean an Adsl modem?)

Well, the main reason I cannot connect the cable modem directly to my G3 is that the other computer in the house is a PC and for some reason cannot pick up a wireless signal with any regularity. As for the type of modem, I am not sure...this is a cable modem provided by Cox Cable service. What I really want to do is find the easiest solution, but I cannot hook up directly with cables based on the setup of the house.

If I do use an airport card, do I have to get anything else? Also, I saw something about an external hub, but unsure as to what that does...

Well... Find out what the modem is and then you can perhaps use a wireless hub with an adsl modem built in. Since the PC can't use wireless you can plug that into the hub through a network card. (Or replace the wireless card in the PC)
