Permanently redirect example.com to www.example.com

i want if some one type example.com in browser address bar ,then my htaccess should force it to [example.com...]

i used the following line in my htaccess

but it saying internal error

RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^example\.com
RewriteRule (.*) [example.com...] [R=301,L]
