PR on Mac (update)

I know PR for mac has been a topic discussed more time than once, and as a Konfabulator user... I noticed a new PR widget that allows one to monitor the Google PageRank of several sites at once.

Looks cool, but the timing could be better. I reckon Konfabulator is about to be squashed by Dashboard.

And of course, every unofficial PR checker has the issue of "how are they getting the PR?" It's undisclosed in this case, so I'd be wary to run it. YMMV

We have been using the page rank widget for about 8 months, it has always been dead on accurate based upon comparisons with ranking's on our peecee.

I hope the new widgets in Dashboard have something like it... beats getting up and checking my windows machine all the time...

whoisgregg - You are correct. I was able to view the package contents and script with the original "Google PageRank" widget, but this new one I posted above won't allow it... Maybe a question to ask the developer.

The PR however on this new widget seems to be dead on... Have not found any inconsistencies yet.

Regarding dashboard:

Even though Konfabulator widgets are unrelated with Tiger's Dashboard, I think the widget developing community is active enough to develop versions specifically for Tiger as they do now for Windows, and Mac.

2005 the year of the Widget ;)

Maybe a question to ask the developer

In these cases, the developer must know enough about Pagerank and enough about the issues involved that disclosure should be part of releasing the tool. If they have to be asked, I expect their answer can't be trusted. I don't mind stepping on any toes pointing this out. :)

I downloaded the widget but then uninstalled it because I found an online PR checker that allows me to do 20 at once and also relays the backlinks for any page checked. PHPliveSupport. I open it in a browser I rarely use and resize it to a small window and it's ready any time I want to check a site's PR.

I dowloaded it a while back. Not bad. I wish you could label them instead of it displaying the full URL. I wanted to monitor some pages deep in my site, but the url was so long I could not tell which page was which when displayed by the widget.

I don't see Konfabulator going anywhere. It is well esstablished, cross platform, and does something dashboard does not. Konfabulator sticks around. Dashboard does not. In most cases you would probably like them to go away, but not always. Let's take the origanal page rake widget for Konfab. You surf, it tells you the PR.
