Well, OS X 10.4 (Tiger) has finally got an official launch date.
Read about it on the BBC [news.bbc.co.uk] or Apple [apple.com] websites.

I've been waiting to buy a powerbook until Tiger's release - now I can finally order it!

Edit:
Hmm, no news about its release on the Apple UK website, although the BBC site implies that it'll be released in the UK at the same time as the US. I've got my fingers crossed!

From the Mac OS X 10.4 Server [apple.com] Page "Tiger Server":
Weblog Server
Now non-technical users in your organization can publish web content without any special software. Calendar-based navigation and customizable themes make it easy for users and groups to publish journals, share project information and post entries right from their existing web browser. And since Weblog Server is based on XML, they can syndicate content using RSS in Safari or using weblog clients that support XML-RPC or the ATOM API.

I wonder how an integrated blogging server will fare against the existing blog software out there.

Already scheduled to leave work early to get a copy. Hopefully, they'll have more than a couple Server boxes. :)

Konfabulator is the Genesis of their dashboard services. (Works for PC too)

Welcome to WebmasterWorld rubik!

Konfabulator is the Genesis of their dashboard services. (Works for PC too)

A bit off-topic (this thread is about the release of Tiger) but perhaps you'd like to start a new thread if you'd like to discuss Konfabulator? Although as a webmaster I'd be more interested in discussing how to integrate my current web services into Dashboard widgets.

I preordered Tiger for $69 with a student discount. Thats a steal! They say I should receive it April 28th.

Vetteman,
Have you received Tiger yet? Today's the day!

We just received the copy of Tiger we pre-ordered. Our "test" eMac claims about an hour to install.

Of course, we're still about to leave to the Apple store to buy a copy of server. ::fingers crossed::

Only negative I see to Dashboard (now that I can use it) is that you cannot have it "sit" under other programs ala Konfabulator. It has to be launched via either the icon in the dock or a hot key that you can choose.

I rather like Konfabulator's ability to have the widgets always available for viewing...

Yes, I received Tiger on the 29th and I'm happy with it! The GUI feels much snappier, much leaner.

I just wish it was fully 64 bit to take advantage of my Imac g5 processor. Looks like I'll have to wait until 10.5 :(

I heard tiger is only 64 bit for terminal programs, like scientific apps.

Tiger is 64-bit for any application that's written to take advantage of it. Apple happened to choose *not* to change their current iLife and iWork apps to take advantage of it yet. Those rewrites would only benefit G5 users which probably still only make up a minority of the installed Mac user base.

Do you know where I could find a list of 64 bit software? I'd be curious to try some out.

::shrug:: Don't know of a list. It's probably still pretty early to expect mainstream applications to switch -- for the same reason Apple didn't switch.

Is it me or is Appleworks noticeably slower on printing and coming to the front (after another App) than it used to be?

Better answer my own post here!

The Apple Support forums showed several threads with people moaning of problems, but nothing similar, so I took it on myself to do plan b) - an Archive and Restore rather than an Update.

Problem's gone away, and even though one of my two machines is a low-spec G4 (the other is a G5), the G4 has popped back into life and it's as lively as it was with Panther, and with loads of extra facilities.
