Java not working in Safari

co-worker suggested change in java.policy file--but I can't get there!

I've taken on a new contract which involves inputting information into an Oracle database via a Java interface. My Safari will bring up the interface but it won't actually let me input the information. I get:

Error Creating New Record
Java.lang.NullPointerException

The person I'm working with suggested a fix in the java.policy file but I can't get at it via the finder.

I tried going via the terminal to change the permissions on the file, but for some reason I get "tcsh: cd: Too many arguments." error when I try change directories to get to the file. My unix knowledge is limited and I am very rusty with what I do remember.

Can anybody help me out with this?

Thanks!

Okay--I think I solved it.

For others out there...

I went into the NetInfoManager (Applications-->Utilities) and enabled the root user.

I logged out then logged in as the root user and was able to access the documents to make the change--now it works.

I did have a weird side-effect. When I logged back in as myself and went to my email program all of my accounts and emails were gone. It was as though I had never used the software before. Does anybody have any ideas on how to fix this?

Thanks!
