I need to remove a program demo that I installed but can no longer find on my hard drive. Is there a way to edit the registry as on a PC?

I have a Ibook 04

Thanks,

There's no registry on a Mac.

In MacOs X the program is probably in the Applications folder as a package. Just delete it.

You may find there are preferences (plist files) for it in the System Library folder and the Library folder of any account that has accessed it. You can delete those too.

And that's normally the end of it.

Many installers leave a log so you can see what went where as a double check.

In MacOs9, it may have installed some system extensions. Working out which ones isn't quite so easy, but if there are no side effects from them, leave them there in the extensions folder.

Thanks, I installed a demo of a program called internet cleanup. I thought I have removed it, by doing what you said above, but I still get a pop up saying the demo is over. I used finder to find anything related to the program, but to no avail. Appreciate any help/guidance.

Thanks,

It may have installed some "background" process that is opened on startup/login. Check for anything fishy in:

Apple Menu > System Preferences > Accounts > Startup Items

Don't uncheck the item, select it and hit the "delete" key on your keyboard or click the "-" minus sign below the list.

Added Yup, this is it. That program installs three (!) different background apps:
knsard, ICleanupMenu, and NetBlockadeHelper
