FTP clients for MACs

Am I just a gumby head or is the FTP client built into Dreamweaver a lemon? I use WS_FTP at home on a PC but at work on this groovy iMac I am stuck with DW4 and it's FTP widget (does FTP stand for "f@#$ing transfer PLEASE!" with this thing?). Why can't WS_FTP release a MAC version? And another thing - why are the PC FTP clients free and the MAC versions (eg: Fetch) aren't?

Rant over. Thank you. I'm going to caffeinate myself...

My old copy of Fetch says it is free for non-profits and only $25 for others. If you use BBEdit (which is commercial) as your text editor, it has a simple FTP feature built into it, but only for text files. It's great for instant editing, though.

DiAMOndDavE,

Have you tried Transmit by panic software??

it has a few nifty features:

- drag and drop
- folder & file synchro to mention a few.

also check out versiontracker, you should get a few ftp apps there.

DW 4's FTP was bugy. However, MX seems to have fixxed a lot of the problems that plagued the FTP of DW 3 and 4. I know that doesn't help you know, but it is something to look forward to.

have you tried anarchie? I don't think it was very expensive.

Always been my favorite for mac. That works together with bbedit as well. I have heard of people not using DW ftp though I don't remember the exact reason.

I've been using Fetch forever. I'm using a somewhat old version, which is pretty simple, but it handles uploading ASCII & binary, with automatic detection of file type, changing file/directory permissions on the server, and deleting/renaming files on the server.

Fetch is rock solid for FTP, I consider it a "must have".

BBedit is fantastic for editing files directly off the server (you need the full version for FTP capabilities).

If your seeking alternative FTP clients hit up a Mac download site such as versiontracker and go into the Internet section and search for FTP there you will find your choices. I use Fetch now in Mac OS 9 and earlier.

I used to have Fetch (older version). Its very simple to use and very reliable. I now use Transmit which I like a little better and is also very reliable. Its is free for a 30 day trial period and then you pay if you like it. I have never been able to make DW4 FTP work properly.
