Yippppppeeeee ... its finally here! Just got my new G5 delivered and am up and running. Wow this thing is fast! The 20 inch screen set to 1024 X 768 (stretched) is perfect for me and my very bad eyesight. No more squinting!

After working on a 5 year old Imac, this is like flying a jumbo jet. I never even had system 10 before so this is all totally new to me. I am just trying to find my way around and figuring out how to make this thing work.

I'm currently downloading a bunch of programmes from Limewire and plan to spend the night familiarizing myself with all the "stuff" on this system. A friend of mine has ordered a book for me (which he has) that explains system 10 really well. I hope its idiot proof because I feel somewhat overwhelmed!

I have waited and saved for a very long time to upgrade to a really good computer and for anyone who who has been hemming and hawing about investing in one of these big screens ... do yourself a favour and buy one!

This is the single best thing I've done for myself in a very long time! Now all I have to do is learn how to use this thing! :)

<added> Forgot to mention that I also got a Logitech MX1000 Laser mouse. Verrrrry cool!

Liane,

Congratulations! I love mine, and I am sure you'll love yours. OS X is very nice indeed.

I just got my first ever mac - a 20" iMac - and I like it a lot.... some printer issues etc.. but the screen is fabulous.

And I noticed a funny thing- using Internet Explorer, the default homepage of MSN.com doesnt display correctly...

I Think its pretty funny that they can't make their own page show up right!

gpilling,

Ditch explorer. Microsoft has no more plans for the Macintosh version. The browser you are using is obsolete. Download Firefox, or use Safari that comes with you Mac. Personally I like Firefox. Seems a little faster on javascript heavy sites...

I just got my 20 inch iMac G5, I am in love. I got 2 gigs of ram, though. I need this for having tons of programs open at once, like Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Itunes and 15 safari windows open.

As a former Windows user, I never knew a computer could be so stable.

too much information

I'm still on a G4, but they don't make a G5 PowerBook. ;o)

So how much of a difference do you see with the dual processor? Did you upgrade memory or anything?

Vetteman, 15 safari windows, don't you use tabbed browsing?

Hey, you might want to check out the zoom feature (System Prefs->Universal Access). You can selectively zoom in and out. So close, if fact, that you can get the mouse pointer to fill the entire screen if you want.

So far I am loving it! No drawbacks or beefs of any kind. The wide screen is simply fabulous and the new Locitech Laser Mouse makes you feel like ... well as though you are driving the best car in the world. After only a few days of use, I honestly don't know how I ever did without this thing in the past!

I am still using my old Imac for a couple of things. (Haven't managed to transfer every file yet) and switching back and forth from the two different mouse models really points out how superior this thing is!

Ooooh ... I feel so spoiled. I can't wait to really dig in and get to know all the different things which are now available.

I also like Safari. Its a pretty good browser! Never used it before.

Dual CPUs are great.

My current G4 is a couple of years old now, but it's still excellent for web work and anything else I need it for.
I have it folding proteins with it's spare CPU cycles, to help with curing disease and such.

You will love OS X, you can do so much more with it.

I was trying to make a huge video on a G4, no hope, it was so slow its time remaining was a few days. I popped it over my dual 2GHz and it was finished and burned to dvd in under four hours.
