I have Windows XP Pro installed on my PC and a G4ibook, all i want to do is share the internet connection to my Ibook from the PC! simple Eh?

I have a 5 port hub to share it out with connected to mac and pc,

i have enabled internet connection sharing on the xp pro machine and im finding it difficult to connect my mac to it! somebody told me that i can use DHCP becuase xp has it built in, but that doesnt work either - tried quite a few things would be really handy if i could get it working?!

thanks

Check your firewall settings in XP? They caused some problems when I connected my OSX laptop through a friend's XP machine.

I would recommend getting a router/gateway unit with a built-in DHCP Server and Firewall. They make them for both Cable/DSL and dialup connections. For the price (less than $40 USD) you will save yourself plenty of time and headaches from using Windows ICS.

Plus, you don't have to have the pc acting as the gateway connected or running on your network in order for the other pc(s) to gain access.

A while ago I tried this in reverse -- sharing my Mac's internet access. It worked sharing access with other Mac's but not PC's. I ended up sharing access from my Airport and everything got better. Plus, now all my machines are behind NAT.

I'd go with the router/gateway too.
My son (PC) and I (Mac) bought one when we went over to broadband.
We didn't even consider that there'd be problems - and there aren't.

And of course, either computer can connect to the Internet whether or not the other is powered up - so much more convenient that catching a ride on someone else's connection...
