I've been using it to replace Word and Excell on a regular basis now. I've found it will read more .doc formats than even Word.

OO is great stuff, and now it's available on all the major platforms. It is poised to take over the world's office desktops if it would just get the hype of commercial products.

Yes, but beware! the current build works with X11, not Quartz. This means that not everyone can use OpenOffice but the ones that have X11 installed.
I personally can't wait for the Quartz release of OpenOffice!
