having trouble opening up a .dat file

I am on a Mac computer and am trying to open up a .dat file

I don't know how to do this

How does BBEdit handle it? If it's a text file, it should open it. If it's a graphic file, try GraphicConverter.

.dat files are pretty generic and can be darn near anything. It makes it difficult to say for sure what will open it.

is it winmail.dat as an attatchment?

if so,i think youll need to get it resent in a plain (as opposed to rich) text email.
