Has any come across a good P.O.S. (Point Of Sale) system that will run on a Mac or even cross platform? Anyone tried Possum?

I asked the Apple store here, but they refure to say what they are using.

I read somewhere that Steve Jobs mentionned that the new Apple stores were all directly integrated into the existing sales infrastructure at Apple. So it must be something developped in house.

For commercial solutions Version tracker [versiontracker.com] are listing a few, but ratings are low.

If you are looking for a cross platform solution, I instictively turn my head in FileMaker Pro direction. (use to develop touchscreen interfaces with it in the medical field years ago)Like, Paygo is a complete cross platform solution going for 1 700 $ for a multi user licence. It is not listed at version tracker. Some other FileMaker Pro modules (bar code, CC processing etc. ) are available if you feel like messing with them. :)

What I get from POSuM :

With the changes in commerce that have taken place over the last few months, the POSuM project has been temporarily taken out of circulation while a new and improved POSuM 2 is created.

Their "download demo" page is empty.

I am not sure about the in house development. Seems like a lot of expence to recreate the wheel. I was talking to a sales rep yesterday and he mentioned that the Apple stores origanally went with Executron's P.I.M.S., but was not sure if they were still.
