Hi people

Its my first post here - lots and lots of great information - I can't believe I haven't found this site before.

With this in mind - one thing I have been trying to find out a very long time is if there is any kind of Web server which can run php and Mysql on a mac G3 running OS9. This is purely for developement purposes

I know its a shot in the dark - but as there are so many knowledable people on the board - I thought I can finally end this quest either way.

Cheers

Welcome to WebmasterWorld, Agua!

What kind of G3 is it? I know you can install OS X on some G3 machines in which case, apache, php, and some flavor of SQL is already installed. (Just waiting to be turned on!)

If it's an "older" beige G3, you may still be able to install X using XPostFacto [eshop.macsales.com], a helper app for doing unsupported installations of X. The link goes to the developers site.

Someone else will have to post info for a classic/OS9 web server... I know it's possible, just don't know any details. :(

<edit: added welcome... little slow tonight.>

Mac OS 9 is not listed as one of MySQL's or PHP's supported platforms:

[php.net...]

I don't think either is possible, or ever will be. This is an example why Apple was smart to make Mac OS X Unix-based.

I think your best bet is to follow whoisgreg's advice and put OS X on the machine. If you're ambitious and strapped for cash, however, you could try installing LInuxPPC on it:

WebTen gets us halfway there, but we still need a database.

Hi

Thanks for the replies folks, and the welcome whoisgregg ;-).

This confirms what I already knew... although the XPostFacto and LInuxPPC have given me some food for thought!

I'm not very technically gifted, but as I have 2 machines - I think I may try it on one - I'll report back here with my results (or probably for more answers as to why it didn't work)

Thanks again
