Hello,

I've put some video clippings on a website I'm working on. They are from 2 - 5 MB. I'm using a Mac and doing the editing on the software program iMovie.

After I've loaded everything on the server, I can see the videos from a PC, but when I click from my Mac, I get the error message: "Cannot open the file. Verify that the path and filename are correct."

What can I do to solve this problem? If you need the url to see what I'm talking about, I can email it to you.

Thanks in advance!

Hello Apples,

Welcome to the board.

The only way I know to read .wmv files on the Mac is to use Windows Media Player for the Mac. Most Mac users wont have it installed.

You can either put a link to download the Player or convert your files to .mpg for a better cross-platform compatibility.

I thought that too... but I looked around anyhow, and found a free program available for OSX that claims to run them (downloaded, but not tested it yet):

VLC Media Viewer, from [videolan.org...]

YAY! Now I can finally look at all those silly email attachments windows users keep sending me...

Looks like its a server config issue. I tested the files on my local server and on another web server and they worked just fine. My guess is this particular ISP has incorrect MIME configuration for WMV files.

Hi

I am assuming that you are embedding the wmv into a html page!

If this is the case then I have found that making the url to the wmv file absolute, not relative, makes this work for a mac.

If you are getting lots and lots of code - then this is the mime type problem.

Cheers
