Also, I have been having vision difficulties for several years and can't work for more than a couple of hours at a time without serious blurred vision problems (getting old). My opthomologist said there isn't much more he can do without laser surgery and that isn't an option right now. Mostly because I am a coward, partly because I can't make my mind up if I would prefer to wear glasses for close up or distance and partly because I would have to go to the States or Canada to have it done and the whole undertaking isn't exactly cheap.
I am considering the 20" Apple Cinema Display monitor. Has anyone else had experience with this screen. Are you happy with it?
Any other basic "stuff" you would recommend for the G4. Any weaknesses with this machine? I am not a sophisticated computer user. I've had Imacs since they were first launched and have been happy with them.
Any and all suggestions welcome.
From what I read, Norton Antivirus 9 is compatible with Mac OS X version 10.1.5 or higher.

I believe most Mac users dont even bother to buy any antivirus software.
I once contributed to spread a word macro virus over a work team without even knowing it. This is why I use some anti viral software on my macs. I curently use Norton AntiVirus 8.0 on mac OS X.
I used Apple Cinema displays on my old G4 and I was very satisfied with them. The office was recently destroyed by a fire and we had to replace everything in a rush. I am temporarly stuck with 'el cheapo' 17" CRT monitors and look forward to buy Apple Cinema displays again as soon I can.
I wasn't aware that Norton was ok for OS 10. Nobody here (on Mac) bothers with anti virus except me and it surprises me how often the bells and whistles go off even though my Mac seems completely unaffected. I don't want to unwittingly spread anything.

Yeah we had insurances but it only covered parts of the losses.

About the display, If you do high end print jobs, a large CRT may better suited for you (and cheaper too). I keep hearing about color issues enven for the most recent LCD displays.

I don't do anything "high end" with my computer. (I sell yacht charters and maintain my own site). I am just looking for the biggest and (most importantly) clearest screen I can manage finacially. I am very low tech and know nothing about what is out there which would be suitable ... nor do I have access to any stores where I might go see this stuff.
Any suggestions on G4 Os 10.3 compatable screens which are nice and big and have very low flicker, stable colour and anything else someone with impaired vision might appreciate would be really helpful! :)

You can get a decent 19 " crt monitor for 200 $ a 21 " for 550 $. If you use a 1024 X 768 resolution on a 0.27 mm pitch 21 " inch monitor, you will have everything enlarged and very crisp. Some monitors have finer than a 0.27 mm, like 0.24 mm.
If you're interested in Anti-virus stuff, you may consider subscribing to Apple's Dot-Mac, which includes Virex anti-virus software.
Dot-Mac offers an eclectic selection of stuff and services (including a very lame Web hosting service) for $100 a year. That's too rich for my blood, but if I were worried about spreading viruses, I'd probably subscribe.
Like you, my old eyes are getting tired.
So you can try it before you buy in any PC store, its just that everything will look... like Windows...
I wish we had a Mac store ... or any computer store here in the BVI, but alas, there is no such thing! Basically, I am buying off the internet without having the advantage of testing or even seeing the real thing.

In my case I use it not so much to protect my system as to not forward on virus to PC users.

If you are looking to save some money you won't be dissapointed with the 17" unless you regularly need to work at higher magnification in InDesign or Photoshop for example (when the extra screen real estate could be useful).
why would you screw it up by adding Norton?
Also, check out the Zoom function in Universal Access in System Preferences. Allows you to use a key combo to zoom the screen, which enlarges everything when you need it.
