Tumult Hyperedit is a neat lightweight OS X HTML editor with CSS et al and has spell checking. Its free as well but you are invited to donate $10!
Pagespinner (Optima Systems) is much improved on OS X and includes spell check etc. It costs just £29.95 and may be just what you are looking for.
If your copywriters have used Quark Xpress in the past you could consider Softpress's Freeway. Note however that it is almost imposible to import an HTML page designed in another package into Freeway successfully. So if you are designing the template in DW for them to use this is definately not an option.
Best wishes

The system is PHP. We just use DW for working on the PHP and the CSS.
The PHP CMS system then calls the the HTML files for the descriptions. The description files are just the descriptions with the formating markup ie <h1> <h2> etc.
I think PageSpinner is going to do the trick perfectly!
All (well, most) of the power of BBEdit, good syntax coloring, plenty of plugins for tag completion and such, far less cluttered than PageSpinner, and free to boot.
