But iLife '04 (for the Mac OS X operating system) also includes a new program called GarageBand. It's designed to let people with even the feeblest musical talent, or even musical interest, create professional-sounding digital recordings. It puts at least as much power into amateur hands as its i-predecessors; all it lacks is the traditional first initial.

A horrible idea but I guess Apple want to get back into that niche they used to have!

What's so horrible about it? Is it the thought of every average Joe making their own music?

The whole concept with all these apps. is to enable people to do stuff that only pros used to be able to do. iMovie and iDVD let you make and burn your own movies. That doesn't seem like a horrible idea ... so why shouldn't they offer something similar for making music? I'm smart enough to know it's not for me, but I bet amateur musicians will like it. And besides, the demo was pretty cool. :)
