Setting BBEdit as default for 'asp' files

I use multiple machines to work on my website. After I edit files on a PC, I get back to my Mac and have to open and resave all of them with BBEdit just so that I can double click them to open them later.

If I set all 'asp' files on my machine to default to BBEdit, will that mess up my 'apple system preferences' files? Has anyone else changed these settings and if so, what are your results?

It won't mess anything up, it will just use bbedit as the default app when you click on a file with the .asp extension.
