got an email today from someone I know with a subject that says they have a new email address.... crashes me if I try to open it.... thought it might be the virus, but when I tried to email their old address, it was dead.... so I think it is legit.

anyway, I cant select it without it hanging me up until I force quit the app.... that means I cant move or delete it either.... it remains unread on my desktop.

I cant find the behind the scenes folder in mail.... thought I might be able to yank it there.... you know what to do?

There are some serious problems with Mail. I never could get it to delete mail off the server on my dialup account. Same thing happened with a friend of mine. I never could figure out why.

While I like the interface and the way it integrates with Address Book, I considered Mail too buggy for serious use and downloaded the free Eudora. Been happy with that.

Sorry dogboy, this isn't answering your question, but I guess it is a word to the wise to be careful in relying on that program.

heeheheh now you tell me:)

I hear you.... been using it since I got this machine last december... I dont know...havent really had any problems with it until now. I think the spam filter works great.... only time it screwed up and called a real piece of mail 'spam' was when it tossed my ex-girfriends letter in the junk pile.... that sealed it for me... this thing is BRILLIANT! eheheh

ok.... but just so someone doesn't get cofused.... It is deleting mail off the server, but I cant touch the file/email off my (desktop) client.... as soon as I select it, it freezes. Any ideas on where that main mail folder is behind the scenes?

Hi dogboy

The files are stored here : Home/Library/Mail/IMAP/account-name(s)

Mine is empty, since I use another mail gizmo. Just a guess, I would try to open a copy of it with BBEdit.

Good luck from there!

well, I followed you down to here:
Home/Library/Mail/... then I see no 'IMAP' directory... then there are a couple of files in there, then a bunch of 'POP-user@mydomain.com' directories that I use for different sites I have... the only thing close is a document called LSMMap but I cant open it and see anything but greek symbols.

well, I dont know.... maybe I just have a new friend on my desktop.
thanks anyway

If you have a POP account instead of an IMAP one, the folder wouldn't be called IMAP.

My Mac isn't here so I can't check for you, though...

ROFLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

why do I use a mac? because it is simple.... maybe even too simple.

solution: I clicked on the offending email, kept the mouse depressed, and drug it into the (Mail) trash.

heheheheeh ...never occured to me that you couldnt select it to delete it, but you could drag it.

I like Mail just fine. I keep getting confused by Macs being so easy to use, though. Sometimes, something I think should be hard is so easy I don't even think to do it. But then, occasionally, something I assume should be dead simple is more complicated than I can even fathom. Argh. It's always rough to transition to a new situation...

I like Mail but I agree it needs a little work. I hear they've improved it for Panther. I sure hope so. It's already *nicer* than Outlook; I just wish it were really *better*...

... the only thing I think really sucks is help now... it is totally useless.... sometimes when I use find file, that sucks too... used to be better in os9, I think.... but I guess we are getting off topic:)
