With MS you have spybot and mailwasher. What are the mac alternatives. I am aware you dont have the same vulnerabilites but what tools are their. I have been tasked to find out and where better to ask.

Any suggestions appreciated.

To date, and the best of my knowledge, there has not been any spyware developed for OS X and the spyware for OS 9 and under is limmited at best. Remote Admin is about the closest thing, but that is a legitamate program produced by Apple for Sys Ops. I use that one myself for managing my office machines.

There are some apps out there for Scanning OS 9 and OS X. You might try looking around SecureMac.com [securemac.com]

You might also dig around on TechTV.com [techtv.com] They have some really good Shows/Articles about Macs on a fairly regular basis and are good about posting that info to there site.

If you are having password safety issues it is most often a Keylogger and those can be found in the Extensions folder of OS 9 if you have one. Well that is the most common type anyway.

It's one of the benefits to the Mac. We seem to go "under the radar" on most of those programs and viruses.

Nearly everytime I talk to my brother he's complaining that he found some spyware on his pc, I keep telling him "get a Mac"

Will they ever learn? :)

I don't know of any spyware. To combat spam I use Spamfire and love it.

Of course I do run Norton AV just to be on the safe side.

Spyware for the Macintosh exists but there are lesser amounts than there is for the PC. All it would take is for Gator to hire some mac developers then the crazy things would happen because almost everything can be replicated on the Macintosh in one way or another. :/

Antivirus software titles do not pick up spyware, at the most they will delete cookies or web cache which is a nice privacy function. Heck most AV software titles don't work right to start with and don't detect all the viruses out there and there arnt that many new viruses for the macintosh ;)

First off, it's not MAC. It is Mac. Sounds similar, but MAC is a whole other thing (look it up on google... it's networking verbiage).

We don't have a problem with spy/scum ware, but if you want to delete cookies/history/logs try MacWasher. It's pretty neat.

As a web site designer I use SpamStopper v1.4.1 from RAILhead Design - [railheaddesign.com...] - to hide all email addresses in the websites I build, and SpamReporter Script v1.5.0 (also from RAILhead Design) to report any spam I receive in Entourage.

You could also get a Hotmail account and turn-on the spam filter, or use Apple's Mail program to sift out spam (although personally I find the program flakey).

I once advised a friend to get the email address:-
AutoDeletingSpamBucket@Yahoo.com

I don't know if he did, but he hasn't mentioned spam since!

Thanks for the link RussianBlue. And welcome to WebmasterWorld! I dont use entourage, but I heard good things about this freeware. Since the site uses frames, here a link to product page.
