We managed to set up a separate hosting account with a company who host Filemaker, and crosslinked between the database-enabled section and the rest of the site.
It was a pretty clunky solution, in retrospect, and I don't think I'd do it again. Filemaker hosting is expensive, and they charge by the database (you need one database for each 'table'). It also isn't much use if you want your whole site to be database-driven (we didn't).
But if you want to look into it more, I think the place I started was the Filemaker site itself. It has a Service Provider info in the support section.
On the up side, once you get the hosting organised, the coding for the interface between web and database was oh-so-simple. Almost made the rest of the hassle worthwhile. I used CDML, though Blueworld's Lasso is now the more typical development tool.
good luck,
